About Me
Harendra Amarakoon
Architect, Interior Designer & Photophile
RIBA, AIA(SL), B.Arch (Hons), MSc (Interior Design)
My design philosophy is deeply rooted in the unique patterns of the socio-cultural fabric and the ecological nuances of each place.
I am an Associate Member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, with over 13 years of hands-on experience in architectural practice. My professional path has been shaped by the mentorship of two of Sri Lanka’s most respected architects, Channa Daswatte and Murad Ismail—both protégés of the late Geoffrey Bawa, the pioneer of “tropical modernism.”
While architecture remains at the core of my work, I am also an avid sportsperson and passionate photographer. Some of the projects featured on this site have been photographed by me—a practice that allows me to communicate the original design intent through my own lens. I am a national medal holder in both rowing and hockey. Sport continues to provide me with balance, resilience, and focus—qualities that are as essential to design as they are to life. A defining moment in my early years was being adjudged the “Best All-Round Student” at the University of Moratuwa’s Colors Night in 2010.
To me, architecture is a soulful expression of art—not simply the will of the architect, but the outcome of a thoughtful dialogue between client and designer. It is a process dedicated to understanding and fulfilling the aspirations of the ultimate user.
